Torrevieja is a city located in the province of Alicante on the Southern Costa Blanca, on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the most important tourist cities in the Vega Baja, the southernmost area of the Valencian Community, bordering Murcia.
Situated on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and between the two nearest capitals, Alicante and Murcia, both less than an hour away. With an area of approximately 72km2, it is home to around 82,000 inhabitants, a number that multiplies in the summer as Torrevieja is a significant tourist destination on the Spanish Levante coast.
It has 20 kilometers of coastline and borders Guardamar to the north, alongside its district: La Mata, to the west with Los Montesinos, Rojales, and San Miguel de Salinas, and to the south with Orihuela Costa.
In the city of Torrevieja you enjoy good weather in any season, with mild temperatures in winter and sunshine 360 days a year. The minimum temperature is around 16°C in January, and the maximum is 29°C in August.
It is a busy town that, although in summer is at its peak, national and foreign residents live here all year round, so it has schools, shopping centers, sports facilities, services and leisure and cultural offerings even in the cooler months.

Sports activity in public spaces is concentrated in Torrevieja in the Torrevieja Sports Palace , which occupies an area of 250,000 square meters. In its twenty kilometers of coastline, and thanks to its good climate, in Torrevieja you have a wide range of beaches to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea, all with clear waters and high quality for bathing.
On the one hand, you have the urban beaches such as Playa del Cura, in the heart of the city, accessible, with all services and blue flag. Next to it are located the natural pools, bounded by breakwaters in which to take a quiet swim in its calm waters.
To the north you find the Playa de los Locos, also with blue flag, accessible and with assisted bathing for people with reduced mobility in the summer months, with fine sand and 25 meters wide, ideal for the whole family for the safety of its shallow waters.
Another of the urban beaches of the same characteristics, to the south, is Playa de los Náufragos, characterized by the palm trees that are on the beach itself and the water park for the little ones.
The offer of beaches in Torrevieja is completed with its numerous coves such as Cala Piteras, accessible and with blue flag, or Cala Ferris, to the south, surrounded by palm trees, both with crystal clear waters perfect for snorkeling.
In the northern part of the town you will find the area of Calas de la Higuera cove, which even has stairs for easy access or Cala de Cabo Cervera, accessible and with blue flag.
If you are looking for dog friendly beaches, in Torrevieja you have the Playa Canina del Rocío, a dog friendly beach located in the south where pets are also welcome.
In addition, in the hamlet of the same name you have the Playa de La Mata, a wide beach of fine sand, accessible and two kilometers long, perfect for walking and enjoying its services such as beach bars, pedals or football and beach volleyball courts.
The Port of Torrevieja is located in the heart of the city and is part of one of the most charming places for walks along the sea.
Here you will find the Real Nautico de Torrevieja, as well as other restaurants and some of the most stylish clubs in the city.
You can also visit the floating museums, located on boats and stroll along the Dique de Levante, a breakwater where you can walk about a kilometer and a half surrounded by the sea to the lighthouse.
Next to the port you have the Paseo Juan Aparicio, the promenade where you also find numerous cafes and restaurants where you can taste the cuisine of Torrevieja, based on fish and rice, and other international proposals.
On the other hand, you can also visit the market of wooden booths, with stalls selling clothes, souvenirs, accessories and gifts, among the fair attractions for children and the Paseo Vista Alegre, with its sculpture tribute to the traditional popular songs of the Habaneras.
Nearby, and to complete the walk dedicated to the sea, visit the Museum of the Sea and Salt or the Eras de la Sal, where historically the ships were loaded with salt from the salt mines located in the city. Currently, in one of its courtyards is held every year the International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja.
The Lagunas de Torrevieja are part of this protected Natural Park characteristic of the city. They are two large lagoons that occupy more than two thousand hectares located between Torrevieja, Los Montesinos, Rojales and Guardamar del Segura.
They are characterized by their colorful colors, one of them is green and the other is called the Laguna Rosa, due to the tone that its waters acquire due to a bacterium that releases a pigment of this color, a spectacle to behold.
You can walk through the lagoons along its trails of little difficulty, suitable for the whole family, from where you can see the characteristic pink flamingos and other birds that inhabit the wetland of great ecological and environmental value.

Torrevieja can be reached by various bus lines that connect the city with Alicante Airport and nearby destinations such as Elche, Alicante, Pilar de la Horadada, Orihuela or Murcia, as well as Madrid, Albacete or cities in northern Spain. The nearest train station is the RENFE train station in Alicante. From there, there are city buses that connect with the Alicante Bus Station.
