Finestrat is a locality located in the north of the province of Alicante, Valencian Community, Spain, in the area known as Costa Blanca Norte and the region of Marina Baja.

It borders to the north with Benidorm, to the south with Villajoyosa, and inland with the municipalities of Orcheta, Sella, Benimantell, and Polop. It has Finestrat Beach and its urban nucleus is spread between the coastal area and its town center, 5 kilometers from the beach.

It has a total area of 42 square kilometers where a population of just over seven thousand inhabitants resides, a number that increases in summer due to its seasonal residents.

La Cala de Finestrat is an urban beach of fine sand with a length of 300 meters. It is bordered by its promenade where you can enjoy the gastronomy of sea and mountain in its restaurants.

The beach is located in a small bay flanked by the mountainous hill to the south, where is the Torre del Aguiló, which can be accessed by walking through a simple route through a pine forest with beautiful views of the Mediterranean. To the north it borders the hill of Tossal de la cala and the buildings of Benidorm.

Finestrat has an attractive cultural and archaeological heritage in which stand out:

  • Castle of Finestrat (XIII). Located in the highest part of the village, there are only remains of this building in the subsoil where there is also a site with Iberian, Roman and Arab vestiges. From there you can see the entire coastline to the city of Alicante.

  • Church of San Bartolomé (XIV-XVIII). Baroque style, it was consecrated to the patron saint of Finestrat in 1751. It is located in the historic center of Finestrat.

  • Fuente del Molino (XIX) The regulation of the waters that flow from the 15 spouts of the well known as Font del Molí dates from 1951.

  • Hermitage of the Santísimo Cristo del Remedio (XX). Located in the area of the Castle, it was built in 1925 and restored in 1952 after the damages suffered during the Spanish Civil War.

  • Festivities in honor of Sant Antoni del Porquet. It is one of the oldest traditions of Finestrat and is linked to the breeding of a pig for its subsequent "slaughter". It is celebrated on the winter solstice and maintains the tradition of the young people of the village walking the pig and collecting donations from neighbors, house by house. Subsequently, an auction of the collected material is held and meat products are raffled among all attendees.

And in the summer season, the most important festivities of Finestrat are:

  • Noche de San Juan. The summer solstice is a centenary celebration in which young people light bonfires on the sand of the beach of Cala de Finestrat and then jump over them. Music and pyrotechnics enliven the dances, gastronomic tastings and baths in the sea.

  • Patron Saint Festivities in honor of San Bartolomé. These festivities have been held for over a hundred years, around the 24th of August, the date on which St. Bartholomew, patron saint of Finestrat, is commemorated. During these days devotion is combined with fun.

  • Fiestas of La Cala in honor of the Tourist. In the second week of September the summer season comes to an end, and residents and visitors enjoy street parties, parades, etc. in the Cala de Finestrat.

How to get to Finestrat?

By road

Finestrat is only 8 minutes from Benidorm and can be reached both by highway and by the national road that runs along the Mediterranean coast. By car you can reach Finestrat from the A-70 and AP-7 freeway taking exit 66 towards Villajoyosa, if you come from the south or exit 65-A towards Benidorm (Poniente)/Terra Mítica if you come from the north and follow the regional roads.

By plane

The closest airport to Finestrat is Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez airport, located in the El Altet district of El Altet, just 40 minutes to the south. This airport has multiple flights to national and international destinations throughout the year.

By sea

If you come by boat, the nearest marinas to Finestrat are in the towns of Benidorm and Villajoyosa, which border the municipality. In Benidorm you have the Port of the same name and its Yacht Club, with 110 moorings, about 20 minutes to the north. On the other hand, about 15 minutes to the south you have the Villajoyosa Yacht Club, with 330 moorings.

By bus

Its proximity to Benidorm means that Finestrat has bus connections with nearby cities and the main capitals of Spain. The company ALSA operates in the town as well as Llorente Bus that connects it with Benidorm.

By streetcar

The nearest tramway to Finestrat is in Benidorm, where it stops on TRAM line 1, which connects the capital Alicante with all the towns of the Costa Blanca North to Denia.
